I hear from time to time players that have been around Ultima Online say that there is such a thing as to much luck. While there may be some luck cap restrictions on some U.O. shards would it not be kind of strange to have +100 luck deeds as a thank you item for those that donate, if it was only so good? I personally scripted the Crusaders gear and the code that is used to create the random drops. I have also been involved with construction of most of the dungeon bosses. Less luck does not make for better drops.
Just so others know for sure. I do run test from time to time on bosses and doom, in fact I believe I have been seen doing this from some vet players, I believe Spacerx has seen me. What I do is create multiples of the bosses and kill them and check to make sure drop rate is where it should be, because often we are asked if we changed the drop rate. Each time I find satisfactory results. And for those of you with high luck, I do it with 10k luck on. I have also seen some pretty good jewelry drops from time to time on regular creatures.
For more info here is how it works. Let’s say you have 3% chance to get an item. You kill it, you don’t get an item. That chance is say a 3 in 100 chance to get the item. Means 97 times out of 100 no item. Each kill is a separate kill; meaning the more you kill doesn’t mean greater % just higher odds of you getting lucky. Now 3% sounds kind of low, I know. But if we figure in luck of say someone with 1.5k luck 1.5k luck can be obtained through normal means. That 3% is increased by an equation. I do not have the equation in front of me at the moment but let’s say 1.5k luck increases it to say 4% this is an example not actual number. The more luck the more the % climes. At 10k luck I have killed 10 with no item, but I have also killed 10 with 3 or more items. What I usually do when testing is kill 100 and I can say I usually have a ratio much higher then it should be. And for those that worry its not fair testing with 10k luck I also test with 0 Luck. With 0 luck I do not get as many items as it should be but I still get a ratio that is much better than 3 out of 100.
I have no intention of revealing the exact numbers but if you have any further questions I will try to answer them.
