Resistances on Crafted Leather Armor

So, to be perfectly honest, I am not sure IF it is actually a bug or what the bug IS if it is a bug; however, I was told that sometimes the tailoring tool gets bugged and I should report it.

Here is what happened:

Veramocor [Tailoring 101ish] crafted some Normal leather mempos out of a variety of leather types with a regular tailoring tool on Wednesday or Thursday. I kept them in order to put together a chart of leather properties for each leather type (I recycled the Exceptional leather mempos). Spined leather was adding a point to Cold resistance.

On Friday, I started constructing the chart that I had planned to construct and I noticed a few things were different on WP than traditional UO. Fair enough. Scudlaris [Tailoring 71ish] crafted some Normal leather gloves out of regular and spined leather. I noticed that spined leather was adding a point of Energy resistance rather than a point of Cold resistance. I was chatting in global chat about my experiences to verify with other players. They suggested that resistances were random (for clarification, we are NOT talking about the resistance points that get added when a crafted piece is Exceptional as they are in fact randomly distributed) and I felt this was unlikely. Scudlaris made another pair of Normal spined leather gloves with a regular tailoring tool and got the same result. Scudlaris made a third pair of Normal spined leather gloves with a regular tailoring tool and got the same result. So I wondered if it because gloves and mempos behaved differently when crafted from spined leather. I also wondered if maybe my different characters would get different results because of different race or different luck levels or some other variable I was not considering. I was going to try to craft with different leather types but Scudlaris does not have sufficient Tailoring skill to craft with anything other than regular and spined leather.

About this time, another player suggested that maybe tailoring tools were bugged again. I decided to log Veramocor and see what kind of results he got. Veramocor has higher Tailoring so crafting leather gloves will only yield Exceptional leather gloves so I decided to make the same items (leather mempos) that he made earlier in the week. To my amazement, when Veramocor crafted a Normal spined leather mempo, it added a resistance point to the Energy resistance. So I decided to craft a few Normal horned leather mempos. The resistance distribution for horned leather was different than it had been earlier in the week as well.

Then I began experiencing the same problem that another player had reported in global chat... leather of the same type would not stack. So maybe the bug is actually the leather rather than the tools.

Sculdaris,

I think what you will find is that "advanced" materials will not always act in the same manner. I don't believe its a bug. You are not looking at a huge impact. Your looking at minor changes. The more you work with advanced material...wood..leather or metal.. the more you will find variable. You will not always create the exact item. There are chances to make everything. Based on your skill and materials involved. If there were not these small chances and variables in the game... Everyone would be wearing the exact same outfits. These are small as your skill is low... your material is lower of the enhanced material... and you are not using runics. When your skill improves and you start using other material... you might have a slightly bigger change from the same crafted items. Then you start mixing and matching different types of runics and materials. You will find that You will be shooting for different resistance and buffs.. and they will match up with corresponding runics and leathers. But within that the discrepancies will grow.

Bottom line. what you are finding is the start of chance. The further you go into this you will find that maybe your resist differs 5-10 points instead of 1. Its not a bug... its the properties of the material you are using.

I hope this helps more then confuses you.

Long story short… the leather that would not stack was a bug experience by more than one player on Friday that fixed itself (presumably at server restart on Saturday morning) and the resists were not a bug.

With regard to the resists from colored leather… it is not random in the sense that at any given point in time, each type of colored leather will add very specific resists when it is used in crafting; however, it is random in the sense that what those values are on any given day has a random nature to it.

To give an example, spined leather added a point of Cold resistance on Thursday, a point of Energy resistance on Friday, and a point each in Physical and Cold on Saturday. In another example, polar leather added, a total of nine points of resists on Thursday and added a total of fourteen points of resists on Saturday. Those do not change throughout the day, but they do change from day to day (presumably they are assigned new values at server restart OR when first used to craft). I have yet to test whether this translates to enhancing as well.
