does this look normal?

In the image, my UOAM shows only icons on a map. There is no color whenever I use the program to keep track where I am etc... is this normal or is this something that can be fixed? Or is there a program that can be used to make navigation easier? Or is this an error on the program?

RunUO doesn't know where the UO program lives on your computer. It relies on a registry entry that might be missing from your computer. Once we fix it it'll build the map files that are displayed under the icons.

Here's what the attached zip file looks like:

Code: Select all
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Origin Worlds Online\Ultima Online]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Origin Worlds Online\Ultima Online\1.0]
"ExePath"="C:\\UOWpines\\client.exe"
"InstCDPath"="C:\\UOWPines"
"StartExePath"="C:\\UOWPines\\uo.exe"
"PatchExePath"="C:\\UOWPines\\uopatch.exe"
"Upgraded"="Yes"

So, save the uowp.zip file from this post and extract the uowp.reg file it contains -- to your desktop is the easiest. Don't run the file yet. Right-click it and choose "edit". This will open the file in Notepad where you can change the file locations to wherever you have UO installed. Note that directory slashes require two \\ slashes in the path. Change the path "UOWPines" in my example to reflect the location of the UO client on your computer.

Once you have the paths correct, go to File > Save and then exit Notepad. Double-click the file and it should ask if you want to add it to the registry. Say yes and start RunUO. It should now know where UO is and should begin building map files.

If you have trouble with all this, post here with the location of your uo.exe file and I'll create and upload a file you can just double-click to fix everything. After all, I am our keeper of UOAM!

well I would be better off if I had left well enough alone, i think. This reinstall makes it worse, as i moved the UO folder to a more default location than my downloads folder, and now i have no easy way to tell the UOAM program to find the location since you cannot manually click a location, you have to enter it textually. And keep forgetting the program files etc that you need to list to make it work correctly for UOAM.

Guess I will be not using a map helper on the Pines now. :) Thanks for trying but this is going to limit my gameplay a lot. Sorry folks.

Koren,
I did a lot of reading when I was messing around trying to fix my setup related UOAM and Razor. What I found was that UOAM by default expects the UO client to be located in a director called 'Ultima Online' and located in the 'C:\Program Files' folder. (Not in the 'c:\Program Files (x86)' folder. If you move your client direcorty (folder) to the 'C:\Program Files' folder and then rename it to be 'Ulitma Online'. Then UOAM can find it automatically without tweaking it.

By the way my UOAM program folder is also located in C\Program Files.

Razor likes to be installed in C:\Program Files (x86) for some reason according to the stuff I've read. I have EasyUO and OpenEUO folders also in C:\Program Files (x86) as well.

Hope that helps!

If you use our linked UO installer, it automatically writes the correct registry values, and both Razor and UOAM will find it wherever you told our installer to install :D (uninstall your current UO first).

So I should uninstall the game fully, and reinstall it in C:/ Program Files instead? So I wont lose any thing like the character etc and just a uninstall/reinstall will be a simple enough fix? Ok, I guess I will give it a try. If I dont see you all soon, I will be the better person cause I got to play here. :)

If you download the installer from here it will do everything for you. The game will work, UOAM will work, and nothing will be lost. You'll have to set up your item layout and macros again but that's not too bad.

After spending a few hours d/l ing and reinstalling game in better directory, UOAM works like a champ now. Plus spending time replacing spell icons, and layout settings, it seems to work very well. Just wish the game could be a bit larger :)

That is possible with Razor my friend... Under the 'More Options' tab you will find a check box next to
Force Game Size ______ x _______

Check that put in your monitor resolution... exit and come back in... Whala!
