Hello to All,
I logged into the game for the first time last night and was greeted by some of you. Unfortunately, it has been so long since I've played UO that I can't remember how to do a reply so please don't think I'm rude
I started playing UO back when the game first started (as I'm sure most of you have) and I played for a few years on Lake Superior. Then an in-game friend started a private server and a group of us moved there to play for another year or so. When that server went down back in 2001, I moved on to other games and figured my UO days were over. Then several months ago I was browsing the game aisle and saw the 9th Anniversary Issue of UO on the shelf. Feeling nostalgic for the good old days I bought a copy and signed back up. All I can say is that I didn't recognize any of it. Amazingly enough, my characters were still there along with all of my now obsolete (and at one time pretty good) stuff but I had no idea what was going on or how to play with all of the changes. I quit before my free month was up. Then I got to thinking about how much I had enjoyed my friend's private server and thought I would give another a try. After reading the rules for several servers I chose this one as it sounded friendly and I love that there is no PKing allowed (always hated that part of the game). Logging in last night was great - Britain looks wonderful and I loved the dolphins I can tell right off that you all have put a lot of time into it and I'm excited to be back "home". My husband is also setting up to join in so if you see a couple of "newbs" running around like idiots just give Sabrina and Hyde a wave and don't be offended if we can't remember how to wave back See you all in the wonderful world of Whispering Pines,

I'm Rowan and my wife Kasia Stydoran plays here as well. I started playing UO with the Third Dawn expansion but only played my free month and then moved to free shards after that. I don't remember the first shard I played on but I also signed up on Allanthya right around the same time and played there for awhile. I have played on many of the popular shards throughout the years but have been away from UO for the last couple years.

I was checking out the rules of many shards a few days ago and settled on Whispering Pines. So far I'm really enjoying the shard. It is very well done.

Hiya, I have a similar story. I played UO nonstop when I was younger, and then moved to games like WoW and LotRO. Every once in awhile I like to visit Britannia and take in the scenery. This server's skill system allows me to do a lot of things I never thought possible, so it's a brand new experience. Like you guys, I thought Whispering Pine's descriptions were the most inviting on all the topsites.

Hello everyone! After realizing my WoW subscription would be up soon (GameTap's already expired), I thought...'well, what about looking for a UO freeshard?' Thus, here I am.

I played UO for a span of several months in late 2005-early 2006, back when Mondain's Legacy was still relatively new. I was an odd duck with my melee tamer, but I had a lot of fun. However, the lure of WoW proved too great, and it will likely continue to claim the majority of my time (as a guild officer I have to make the occasional appearance, at least). I was on the Lake Austin shard, with the character Nynaeve and a nice little house, albeit not the monstrous masterpiece that my mother owned.

I'm looking forward to this quite a bit--currently waiting for the client to finish downloading--since you all sound very pleasant, and the completely PvM aspect pleases me greatly as that was the one thing I hated most about UO (not even kidding).

Well, I started UO on the 'official' server back in 2000. Loved the game instantly, and been addicted ever since. I was running two paid accounts full-up with 5 chars each (max at the time), and was having a wonderful time, when EA suddenly decided to destroy any and all vestiges of the original game charisma with the Age of Shadows. First they totally changed (or destroyed) several crucial aspects of the game, then to add insult to injury, the new content released with AOS was so terribly buggy, and their "many times a day" server crashes were intolerable. At the same time, the attitude of the customer-interfacing employees at EA went south, and so did customer support. AND, they had to gall to raise the monthly subscription price - "to help pay for all this <expletive here> ". This was early 2002.

I figured, "What have I got to lose?" and tried out a couple freeshards. Been playing constantly since then, usually staying with a single shard at a time, until/unless something comes up to make me start looking again. The last shard I was on was decent, and I played there about 2 yrs or so, but about a year ago a new breed of players started drifting in - and they seemed to be recent ex-EA players, and they brought that attitude of theirs with them to the shard. The owner kept control, but only at the expense of an exasperatingly larger amount of time spent 'policing' instead of playing and developing the shard. And the newer players who managed to lower their attitude enough to not get banned outright started to continuously push the envelope to see how much or how often they could get away with. Made for a very tense playing environment instead of relaxed, friendly playtime.

I left that shard a short while ago, spent a couple of UO-less months, and couldn't take it anymore lolol. And Here I am - 2 days old and loving it .
