Posted: Mon Apr 13, 2009 6:42 pmPM s are generally considered by players to mean personal or private message. In a sense this is the case. However, your PM s are loosely monitored. Some may complain about this, as I have recently heard being done. While we have in the past given a bit more leeway on the content of PM s, we still must monitor them.
Many may ask why can’t we just have them be totally private? The explanation is simple. W.P. tries hard to uphold to a family atmosphere. In doing this, we have set aside rules that some shards may not enforce. Many of these rules have to do with interactions with other players, such as language and behavior towards other players. While we have not had a huge issue with these kinds of problems, the potential for them are always present. We have all ages on W.P. and we will not tolerate harassment or abuse of other players. To make sure these actions are not happening in PM s there must be some monitoring of them.
So, to answer others questions, yes we MAY let you get away with a bit more there and then again we may not. Some things are just not tolerated in any form on W.P. While harassment is our main concern we will also not tolerate advertising other shards. If you wish to talk of other shards please feel free to do so, but please do not call them by name. You can easily refer to them as other shard, other world, or on another place. Advertising of other shards is generally frowned upon on all shards, not to mention it is just plain rude and disrespectful to the current shard you are on. W.P. is provided to you the player in a totally free form. We are very thankful of those that donate to help support the cost of running W.P. but we do not force/require anyone to do so. As such please have the common courtesy to respect our rules.
If for any reason you just have to name a shard by its name, or send inappropriate language to another player, feel free to do so, but do NOT do it in any medium provided through W.P. There are a lot of instant messaging programs out there that can be used for free and you as a player are more then free to ASK another player here on W.P. to use one of these programs so you may talk more freely.
