In about 2 months that I've been here I've only heard of 1 event (cove fires) . The decoration for holidays is great but it's not really an event is it? Well I thought I might suggest this since it worked on the previous shard and was rather fun... Have a weekly Shard Trivia...

Once a week have all the player's who wish to participate join say in the party hall or some big building with benches. A GM would run the Trivia (which is actually really nice since that's where Player's develop connection with a GM, rather then hearing a voice and rarely seeing the face hehe). A set amount of questions will be given depending on how many players participate, each question will have 3 different points for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place answers. Time limit of about 60 sec is set to come up with an answer. All answers get PMed to GM with answer in the subject line. Questions would consists of anything related to shard and uo, examples: who sells arcane arrows? or something, where does lady mel dwell? , stuff like that. Player's are allowed to leave the are to search for their answers but the time limit still applies. No pets allowed in the Trivia area to avoid extra lag. At the end points get added up and 3 highest scores receive prizes (Trophy with date and event title on it, maybe reward twiggy, whatever you feel fits).

SlickBlade, we have run trivia here from time to time. Lately, RL has not allowed out staff time to run it or many other events, and they have instead focused on the monitoring of the shard, answering of pages, and workign on things behind the scenes.

That's a bummer, just thought id bring it up since Rince left do to boredom (last discussed) and more interaction from staff with events might keep more people busy =/

Maybe recruit a dedicated volunteer from player base (seer or counselor) to run events such as trivia in the meanwhile?

Rincewind did not leave due to boredom, but rather conflicts of personality with some on the shard. He did not attempt to explore even a tenth of what WP has to offer.

There are tons of things to do on WP that take no staff involvement. It was set up that way on purpose. Even the vets on that shard have not done it all. For example, who among you has a complete set of peerless armor and knows the benefits that it provides?

That being said, the staff application process has been under development for several weeks now and must be in place before we even consider taking applications for another position. And these things take time to set up. We will not just randomly bring on someone to staff and run events. They must apply, be interviewed, and show us that they are WP caliber material.

All of our current staff is VERY dedicated and spend hours each day working behind the scenes for the betterment of WP. But you must understand that RL always takes priority and it has recently for all, myself included. That's again why we set up the shard to be self-sufficient.

Apologies for rambling, but wanted to flesh out some of my answers. Ultimately, WP is what YOU make of it. And if things are seeming a little too easy, try doing those same things without pets, or with minimal or no armor

We will see if we can't have some staff run events in the near future for ya! (trivia is not the only thing we do, btw )

Well, I saw this post and thought that I would chime in my two cents! First of all, yes RL has really taken a toll on us staff! We have even had one of our staff out for several months on, let's say, a Leave of Absence due to RL situations. Personally, I have been working on the Easter quests and events that are coming up this weekend so, I have not had the time to conduct any extra events during the down time from St. Patrick's Day. We have had several events in the past which I am sure were before you joined WP. When we are available we have Hide-N-Seek, Trivia, Ch'varye's Deadly Chili, Firefighting, and, my personal favorite, Paintball. There are a couple reasons why I haven't personally conducted a shard-wide event. The first is RL. I work full-time, I'm a mother (Yes, Storm has little Lightening Bolts running around her house), a wife, and a student....it gets a little crazy! Second, is the Holidays! I am in full charge of the holidays and everything that happens during that time...deco, events, quests, gifts, etc. Since this is our first full year being public, we have nothing to fall back on so, I must come up with or find everything for the holidays in order for you all to be able to enjoy them. Finally, is lack of participation. I typically run the Paintball event. The last time I ran it there were only 2 people involved and it had been announced for a week in advance...I understand we have a new group of players now so, I will try to get a Paintball event planned within the next couple of weeks. But, it takes a lot of planning and preparation to do the Paintball event and then when only one or two show up OR I have to beg to get the players involved it can be extremely frustrating, not to mention time consuming. By all means, I am not complaining but, trying to show you what happens behind the scenes. I said all that to say this, we, as staff, want to make your experience here as enjoyable as possible. We want to see Whispering Pines grow and be a flourishing shard. This weekend enjoy the Easter activities that are planned. We understand that you, the players, would like to have more events so be prepared to participate when the time comes........ Keep your eyes peeled!!

In the last two months, I know that the Ch'Vayre's Chili event has been run at least twice. And at the holidays there were events in addition to the decorations, i.e. the Leprachaun quest at St. Patty's Day, and there were the Valentine's Kissers for V-day. These two events were set up specifically for the holidays and required no staff interaction (this was done on purpose, as we want you guys to be able to play without staff getting in the way)

Would you like to see more staff involvement on the shard? I would like to hear from you and others about this question.

Greetings fellow W.P. players. I saw all the interest in this post and thought I’d toss my thoughts into the open. It has been about three weeks since I personally ran an event. The event I generally run is Ch’varye’s Deadly Chili. The Chili even is a simple “Russian Roulette” type of game. Players gather around a bowl of Ch’varye’s Deadly Chili and take turns eating. The chili often makes you do things such as “sweat profusely”. The last player standing is generally the winner, however the rules to winning can and are often modified a bit here and there to things such as you must be last man standing two times and so forth. This event generally sees about 2-3 players interested in doing it.

Yes, I have also set Cove on fire in the name of Khaldun two times now. I have plans for other fire areas that can be used. However, those two times only a few players participated. This seems to indicate to me that there is a general disinterest in the event. As Lady Storm has mentioned above if players are not interested in the event there is little reason for us to rush out and do it.

We (W.P. Staff) like to sponsor events. I have also on many occasions publicly asked for event ideas as well from players. Not all ideas can be done, but Lord GhostRiderGrey is willing to entertain many ideas and see if we can find a way to script/set up those ideas. Until now, I have had few to no players show an interest in coming up with event ideas that the players would be interested in. SlickBlade’s suggestion for trivia has been one of the first to speak out.

However, I will also say that [Owner] Lord GhostRiderGrey, [Admin] Lady Storm, [GM] Lord Rothgar, and I have all done some kind of trivia events in the past. Other events run by Staff have been Hide-N-Seek, Paintball, deco contests, a fishing contest and a monster bash. These are a few I can name right off the bat with little thought. Many of these have seen little to even sometimes no participation. It is understood as a small and relatively new shard that numbers being involved will be low, but the lack of player interest that is often shown, asks the question are there other possible events that you the players of W.P. would like to see? We cannot do all ideas due to scripting/game limitations but we are more then willing to entertain and look at other things

I forgot to mention this in my above post but, pay attention this Easter Weekend as I will be introducing a new event (meaning NEVER BEEN DONE ON WP!!) at some point......I have it all scripted and modified and I hope to see many of you there!!! I usually announce everything on the Brit Bank Town Crier and sometimes the website to stay tuned in to them!!

Gosh I may be in Malaysia at that time for the "long weekend" if not I will surely participate +_+ Hope I can sneak away/ make it back on time for it.
