Pet skillcap increase deed

Ok, so far I have heard this issue has affected my rune beetle and Coyote's white wyrm. The problem is some pets have a skillcap of 700 and therefore using pet powerscrolls are wasted when skillgain would take the pet over the 700 cap.

So, my suggestion is a skillcap increase deed for pets. This would make the pet power scrolls more useful.

if i am not mistaken...and i often am...you can use the powerscroll but it will steal points from other stats keeping the cap at 700 but redistributing the points....I think you should be able to choose which stats drop by adjusting the arrows on the pet skill screen.

Avanthar - It seems that once your pet reachs the 700 skill point cap - it doesn't gain anymore in any skill - and applying a PowerScroll doesnt take any points from anywhere to re-apply. And also, sorry - there are no arrows on the pets skill level display screen - you can't set one to go down to raise another .. no bouncing skills.

At this point, it seems the if you have a 7xGM pet, then pet PS's are useless to apply to that pet.

If this is so .. what can / should be done about it?

I would LIKE to see a way to raise pet skillcap .. but I also am aware of the potential balance issues. Maybe a way to lcok and set direction for each skill would work .. but is it possible to implement reasonably (code wise and shard philosophy wise)?

I don't know .. I'm too new here to have any real feeling of how the shard leans towards this.

hmmm...it would seem to be that i am incorrect on the adjustment arrows...been quite a while since i trained a pet. What i will say is that there are plenty of more powerful pets in the land that you will be able to tame and control quite quickly that i wouldn't waste time raising the stat cap on a white wyrm...The Wyrm might be your best pet now but there are many many others that you will be able to tame and control that will render it useless. The stat cap raising issue would come into play when you have the top tier pets...Bio, Steel Steed, and a few others...raising their caps would certainly upset the balance as they are quite powerful in their own rights and wouldn't need the adjustment. Keep exploring and working on your taming and lore...these doors will open up for you rather quickly.

I'm not sure what you mean about balance on the pets, they can still only have a max of 120 in each skill, which seems to be what is intended by the pet power scrolls.

Setting the ability to raise or lower a skill by use of an arrow on a pet is a coding nightmare - from changes to BaseCreature to creating a gump it would be a real pain.

As skillcap is already a function on BaseCreature, its just a matter of having a deed that increases the skillcap from 700 to (8 skills x 120) = 960 skillcap. All pets have the same 8 skills (tho most dont have poisoning). A very simple script.

Avanthar - you're right - sorta :) It seems that there ARE skill direction arrows - But on BIO pets, not tamables. And the Pet PS's are aimed at Bios really, not tamables again. From what I've seen on the RunUO boards, it IS possible to code in a skilldirection arror for tamables, but it is supposed to be quite a chore. And it also has many many potential adverse effects on other mobs.

So it looks like the full potential of the Pet PowerScrolls is with Bio pets - making Bio Engineering the wave of the future.
