NPG would like to welcome everyone to participate in the 1st Annual WP Boat Race, to be held at the Brit docks Saturday, July 9th, at 8pm shard time.

The rules are simple -- use any boat you would like. The course (map below) will run counter-clockwise through the islands and back to the docks. First boat to touch the dock wins. We'll have people at each turn to help you know which way to go as well as other markers in case you get off course. Watch for the random sea monsters -- you'll have to avoid them to be the first to arrive at the dock.



The course isn't a straight line so you'll constantly be giving commands to your tillerman. No using maps with pins; all navigation must be by voice only.

Grand prize: A large BBQ grill and a carpet deed -- start off your summer in style! There will also be a participation award for everyone else.

Anyone can win so let's see those boats on the 9th!

The Mythical Sextant of Control is allowed. However, you can give your tillerman the same commands by voice so you too can move diagonally.

The commands forward left, forward right, back left, and back right will move your ship on the diagonal (straight up or down) but the ship won't actually rotate in that direction.

Assign these commands to macros, like on the numberpad, and you'll have full control over your ship in the heat of the race.

Styx was the winner -- and the only competitor!

Because of that, I took the helm of the Isajar Lite (my fastest boat) and was joined by the boats of GhostRiderGrey and spacerx just to make it a sporting event. From the beginning it was a demolition derby, with boats fighting for the same space to get out of the harbor. After that things opened up a bit. Somehow everyone ended up at the halfway point at about the same time but Styx pulled away in the open seas between there and Brit. An ill-placed kraken interrupted my trip and by the time I finished him I was doomed to last place.

Merchantmace observed the proceedings on horseback. He also wrangled the sea horses we all managed to pick up on deck as we navigated the course. We celebrated at the docks with a fireworks display and awarded the BBQ grill and carpet deed to Styx.

Laurana, Fizzlepop & myself would have loved to take part, alas the time difference sort of made it a nono.
I can just imagine it now....Styx's boat roaring through the waves, bow up, stern down, the wind ruffling his robes as he shouts orders to his tillerman, "FULL SPEED AHEAD AND DAMN THE TORPEDO'S".
I can sort of imagine a Frenzied Ossie waterskiing behind him too!
