Pet Shrink system Changes

Some questions have been made by players as to the changes to the pet shrink system. Instead of trying to explain the changes to each player asking, I am attempting to give a full explanation here. I have tried to explain it the best I know how. If for some reason this does not make sense to you, please post on this thread what you are having difficulties understanding and I will try to explain further.

The Whispering Pines Core system has players pack set at a max weight of 400 stones. Every shrunk pet is suppose to weight 25 stones. What this means for the player is that every time a pet was shrunk and it would take their weight over 400 stones the shrunk pet would fall to the ground. So, if shrinking a pet would take the players pack to 401 or more stones the pet fell to the ground.

Many players have lost pets due to this happening and them not noticing the pet falling to the ground.

In an effort to help the players not loose their hard earned and hard trained pets, there was a cap put inside the items that shrink pets. Now, if your pack has 375 stones of weight in it, the shrinking items will not allow you to shrink your pet. All that you must due is unload some of your weight by whatever method you choose. At 374 stones of weight you can shrink a pet.

Now some may ask then why 375 and not 376? I left a 1 stone leeway in case of some system error. It is possible at 400 stones exactly that the system may see your pack as being over full and drop your pet.

I hope this helps every one understand these changes and that it was put in to help keep players from loosing pets not as any kind of punishment or limitation.

Frist i whant to say thank you Ch'vayre thank you and storm and ghost for the FREE timw that you all put in so we can play here . That being said i dont know if iam understanding how this works or if iam seeing it wrong but this is what i see . and ill try to explaine it how i see it . iam thinking it looking at my total weight like lets say my pack weights 301my total weight is 383/607 ok now i can shrink my pet but if my pack weighs 326 and my total is 408/607 i cant shrinkmy pet and my pack is not over weight and it wont fall to the ground if i was to put 10 stons on the ground then shrink my pet i can still pick up the 10 stones and put it in my pack . now i have a larg bag of holding and a bag of resources so ill live with it or work around it but thoes that dont mite have a hard time with it . but also i totaly understand why this is being done have lost a pet my self its not fun and iam in no way trying to make more work for any of you like i said Thank you for all the time you have put in already and if this is how it going to be ill live with it  now if iam being dumb witch is totaly posable iam sure youl let me know hehe.

Lord Spacerx I under stand your concern. The Owner GhostRiderGrey has tried to make it so that you can carry has much weight has your strength will allow. This has been done through scripts. The 400 cap I speak of is in the server core. Therefore even through you can carry more then 400 stones the core still believes you can carry only 400, the system has been tricked so to say. When shrinking a pet it is possible for the system to check with the core, and therefore possible for a pet to be dropped to the ground even through you can technically still carry it. In most cases this probably does not happen.

I honestly wished to leave things they way they where with players being responsible for their pets. However, there has been a very large number of players loosing their pets because they have not paid attention when shrinking. I could put an equation into the scripts which would check your max strength, however there is still a small chance that a shrunk pet would fall to the ground due to the core settings.

As long as there is the small chance, it would kind of negate the reasoning behind putting the weight check into the shrinking items. The reason this was implemented was to prevent the lose of pets that was happening. This way hopefully completely prevents the chance of a pet falling to the ground.

I ask you to ask yourself this. When you lost pets in the past, "Would it be better to have to make sure your weight was at 374 or under or to loose the pet?" I would wager 99% of players would rather deal with a weight cap then the lose of a trained and bonded pet or even a bio pet. (The latest lost pet was a bio pet that the owner claimed was made by you as well).

Now all that being said if the majority of W.P. players believes they would rather risk the lose of a pet and be able to shrink their pets with a much looser check on the weight. I can do this. But, many more will need to come forward to have me press on with this kind of change.

Please as a vet of W.P. Lord Spacerx let me know your continued thoughts on this.

For those not sure what I mean when I say the core: The core is a program that allows outside players to run a Ultima Online server. To make changes to the core we have to get the program source files, make the changes then try to recompile the program, there is a list of all kinds of things that can go wrong with this kind of process and we try to make it a habit of not messing with the core.
