How to get gargoyle tools:
1) BOD's. They are a random drop with certain BOD's. Gargoyle pickaxes drop from smithing BOD's. Gargoyle knives drop from Tailoring BOD's. Gargoyle axes drop from fletching BOD's on shards that have that system in place. That system is not installed on WP (at the time of this post).
2) They are a random drop on all types of Gargoyles. Currently this is the only way to get Gargoyle axes at the time of this post. You can get them from Gargoyles anywhere they occur including champ spawns. If you have a looting macro, this is the quickest way to acquire them.
How to use gargoyle tools pickaxes:
Use them the same way that you would any pickaxe or shovel for mining. However, unless you are extremely tough, you should manually do this. Don't use a macro. Pickaxes will raise the level of a vein by 1. For instance, if the vein normally gives gold, you will get agapite. With each swing of the pickaxe, you have a chance of spawning an ore elemental of the level of metal you are getting. The higher the elemental, the harder they hit. Once you have killed the elemental, you can loot it. It will have 25 of the colored ore of the same type you have been mining and a 5 use runic tool of the same level. It will either be a smithing hammer or a tinker tool. Runic tinker tools can currently only be obtained in this manner as far as I know. On shards with tinker BOD systems, runic tinker tools can be obtained through those BOD's as well.
Gargoyle pickaxes are used up faster than other gargoyle tools. A 100 use gargoyle pickaxe lasts me an average of about 3 veins. So choose your veins wisely if you only have a few of them.
Special hint – Prospecting tools can be invaluable to you here. They will raise the level of a vein by one. The gargoyle pickaxe will raise it one MORE. So if the original vein is copper, the prospecting tool will raise it to bronze and the gargoyle pickaxe will raise it further to gold. This not only helps get higher level ore but will help you make sure you are in the right place and avoid wasting uses of your gargoyle tool. It also helps when you have limited veins marked of higher level ores. You can get platinum from toxic, electrum and platinum veins in this way. Prospecting tools are obtained by BOD's.
How to use gargoyle axes:
Gargoyle axes are used in much the same way as the pickaxes. However you will be getting 10 or 20 logs with each swing. So you end up with many more boards per use than you get ore per use. They will also spawn elementals. In this case they will be wood elementals. They will carry boards of that color and a 5 use runic tool of that color. Unless carpentry and/or fletching BOD's are introduced, this will be the only way to get runic tools that use wood.
I don't know of a way to get lumber prospecting tools on this server as yet.
How to use gargoyle knives:
Gargoyle knives are unique in that they bump up the level of leather that you get a random amount up to 7 levels. So you can possibly get ethereal leather from anything that drops barbed leather (dragons or higher). Gargoyle knives also have a chance of spawning leather elementals. Simply use the gargoyle knife the same way you would normally skin a dragon. Collect the leather off the corpse. Once you have killed a leather elemental, it will have 50 leather of the color of that elemental when you skin it. It will also have a 5 use runic sewing kit.
Hint: Use your gargoyle knife on the leather elemental! This is the only elemental on which this works. You have the chance to upgrade the leather in that elemental. You also have the chance to spawn another elemental of a higher level. If you originally spawned an ethereal elemental and another elemental spawns, it will also be ethereal.
As far as I know, there is only one other way to get the higher end leathers. That is by taming lokais.
WARNING:
The higher end elementals hit very hard. Most of them will one hit kill you unless you are have high end skills and armor. This is fine as long as you have a way to res. Simply res and attack it with your pets or whatever. Most higher end elementals will dispel so you will need another form of spell to kill it if you don't use pets.
Yet to test:
I don't know if luck will increase your chances of spawning an elemental. If so, it would pay to wear one. A luck suit should increase the drop rate of gargoyle tools on kills.
I also don't know if luck improves your chances of higher level leather elementals.
Final note:
Gargoyle tools are simply the fastest way to get colored ingots, lumber and leather. All crafters should have them in their arsenal.
Gargoyle axes and pickaxes will NOT let you get a higher level of material than your mining/lumberjacking skill allows. If your prospector tool or gargoyle tool raises the level higher than your skill allows, you will get the base ore/wood.
Gargoyle tools and prospecting tools can be stored in the tool box. There is room for a lumber prospector there too but I don't know of a way to actually get one.
