Player Run Events

Hi WP! I've been thinking of ways to reignite my WP gameplay as of late. I've done a great deal of the content and kind of have been reduced to farming golden twiggies and spellcrafting spells (crumbled much?). I believe that player driven events are a really good way to keep people engaged and drive that sense of community that makes freeshards thrive. Admin driven events are one thing, but us players have the ability to create our own content in a way.

Since I joined in January, there's been one larger event (skull collection for Davohkin) and a few smaller events (find the blaze llama). Fun goals to shoot for and some rewards. I believe the reason we don't see more of this is because the players running the events need to offer up their personally earned goods (gold/tokens/scrolls/deeds) in order to give incentive to players to participate.

I think the incentive should be to the event coordinating player to start the event. Perhaps refunded gold/tokens/scrolls/deeds that they paid out, or even more creative.. like cosmetic event master clothing chance deed (crumble again!) or something along those lines. I believe you guys get the point.

There's some events I've thought about working with, like "Dragon Hunting" - bring me 2500 black dragon scales (probably a guild effort to collect) and receive a piece of crusader gear or two for your guild to roll on. Only thing is, I don't have extra crusader gear to give up, so I never started the event.

Let me know what your thoughts are on something like this. I don't want to make more work for Ghost or the admins.

Events in general don't thrill me normally. At least not they way they are put together in most cases very quickly. I am a busy player most of the time. I've NEVER understood the allure of bank sitting, I almost always has a list of 20 things that I want to accomplish, the question is normally more like if I have sufficient time right now to focus on any particular task.

the staff managed events I have been able to participate in have been fun for the most part, but I really loth running around looking for things I have benefited from a player sponsored event (find the packy) but that was shear luck that I ran across the beast (thanks Damien). I would have NEVER had the patients to go looking for the critter or would I allow that to pry in to my primetime play.

Regardless of the event type (player or staff sponsored) I would like more notice and a bit more of a clue what is expected and needs to be done to participate. I think it is a bit much to expect everyone to drop what they are busy doing to run to a 'instant event' and have no idea what is going to be expected of them. I tend to often avoid events due to lack of information or lead time. Perhaps having them in Ghosts MOTD as a foot note might be a good idea so I can 'plan' to be on and available when the event is scheduled and having an concept of what I will be asked to do (with in reason).
