Ghost's Thoughts on Camping a Spawn

Currently we do not have any rules against "camping" a spawn. Over the years, staff and I have had numerous discussions regarding camping and have come to the conclusion that crafting such rules are difficult indeed. There is a fine line between investigating a spawn area, trying to be there when the monster spawns, and "camping" it. Staff would prefer that players did not monopolize a spawn location to the exclusion of other players. Some things spawn slowly and we understand that players will check those location frequently, and possibly hang out there for a bit to see if it will spawn. As long as they are not monopolizing the spawn and keeping other players from doing it, we don't see an issue and will allow it to happen.
It is not any player's responsibility to "police" spawns. To determine who is or is not camping is a job for staff only. It is not up to a player to determine who they think may or may not be camping an area. Perhaps that person is merely afk, getting a sammich or taking a bio break. Perhaps they have come and have hidden for a bit to see if the spawn will appear. As there is no rule against that, it is perfectly acceptable. Revealing players who are hiding at a spawn location we consider mean-spirited and runs counter to the sense of community we have tried to foster in the Pines. Doing this is only creating hate and discontent, and must stop.
I have posted this in General Discussions to allow players to comment if they wish. General comments on this policy are welcome, but do NOT call out any player by name in your comments.

My only purpose for bringing to topic up in game is because of complaints from people. (who will not be named) and my personal findings(about those who were and will not be named) needed someone to stick up for the players gaining ability to play in and participate in special content. I consider the action of those players dominating special content bullying. Its behavior in OSI shard play that is and has been frowned upon since I started in wp. For our newer and moderate players (who I will not give names out to anyone) and those that do not know what they are missing yet, This selfish behavior needs to stop.
I understand it is not my responsibility to police this... but since no one else will... I would rather rub a few the wrong way than to allow dozens of players to leave or become frustrated because of a couple selfish players.
This isn't about ME getting special content... I seldom actually participate in it because... I have been there.. I have taken my turns. And many many more would like to experience it as well. All for everyone to experience it... and that's the point... moderation... let others in.

Decided to re-write my post. I understand what the concern is and how it affects player experience. I also don't see a good solution other than player driven justice. Lowering spawn times makes bosses/chests/rare pets more farm-able and worsens the problem. Increasing spawn times makes the gear even more rare and argued over if there is a conflict. Nearly every other MMO can be played with the sole purpose of self progression and advancement. This game, however, really shines when players work with each other for the greater good of the community as a whole. Help a few players gear up and teach them content and you will soon have a team ready to farm peerless/custom bosses.
I see the line that Ghost, Moderators, and players like Merch walk. Its a balance thats not only theirs to bear and the responsibility rests with all of us. There are a few dungeon bosses for example (fire and covetous) that are extremely easy and should be left to players that are just heading out. Theres still ice, hythloth, deceit, and despise. They are pretty tough and should see little contention.
I will stay away from the crusty chest spawn camping conversation. For some, its the only way to progress their gear and I don't see a good alternative. Maybe in the way they spawn? *runs away from topic!*

What is or is not dominating special content is up to staff only to determine, not players.

Staff is happy to looking any allegations of camping. Players have merely to communicate to staff the who and when and staff will look into it. Honestly, we have seen
very little traffic regarding camping, and much traffic regarding interference (policing, purposeful revealing, etc). As a player, if your intention is to rub ANY player the wrong way, then WP is not for you. If you have an issue as a player, bring to to the attention of staff. Taking matters into your own hands only makes you a target for hate and discontent.

There is tons of content in WP, if someone is working one piece of it, there are a zillion more to be had. This is also the reason for creating spawn timers that have a very large window of possible spawn time. The time a special item will spawn at cannot be specifically nailed down.

This is ridiculous... we let 3 players cry and the mountain moves. It is not staff job to say if something is bullying or not. It is... its a fact....am I understanding that staff will tell me how a behavior or action will be perceived by myself or others? No one anywhere will ever tell me how I can view anything. In that respect you are dead wrong. You may want to rethink your words.
Define much traffic from reveal player please... I have done it 3-4 times? since ive been here in wp. So you must be referring to others doing the same? Please be honest and do your research before accusing a player of behavior. You see traffic 600 times over one incident... coming from those you should be monitoring. And... nothing in the rules about viewing an area in that manor. I did not lure anything to them or stop their escape. Nor did a say a word to them at that time.
There is a lot of content in wp. Does that mean that players must write off certain content because it is typically not available to them? that's the right way to go about it? Understood.
Your right... if these are now the views of the shard this is no longer the place for me. Lets support the violators. People that show little to no respect for equal play opportunity. Are these people I care if they hate me? I don't think so.
I have supported and contributed a great deal to wp. But this shows an utter lack of confidence in where the shard is being lead and who is driving the bus. Everything I posses in game is currently up for offers

I never mentioned bullying in my response. I mentioned dominating special content. This post has been months in the making and it is more than just 3 players who have prompted it.
I never mentioned you by name Merchantmace, you did that to yourself. I have had over a dozen reports of players being revealed. They may or may not have been you. The problem is that if you've done it even once, then you put yourself in a position of being blamed every time it happens. That is why players cannot be policemen of the shard. It must be left to staff, whether you think staff is doing that job or not. When you get to the point where you think it is okay to rub players the wrong way, then it is indeed time to leave.
There is no write off of content in WP. We take turns.
You have contributed greatly to WP, and we appreciate that (whether you believe that or not). However, when you come in and decide to liquidate 12960 powerscrolls as just a start, that would not only destroy the shard's economy, but rob players of gameplay. I consider that childish and bratty behavior and honestly don't think you are thinking clearly. Why would you want to ruin the shard for those that still enjoy it here.
This is twice now that we have been down this very same road. It has gotten old and I have banned your accounts until further notice. In a weeks time we can discuss it further if you like.

I only posted to this conversation to try and spark some back and forth, but there is more going on here than I anticipated.
Part of me feels like its not my place, but I feel like something has to be said.
Merchantmace may have a strong personality, but I don't think any single player cares as much about WP with absolutely nothing to gain than him. I struggled with him at first, thinking his motivations were selfish and his inability to give straight answers was an attempt to keep me from progressing into his territory. I couldn't stand him to be honest. The truth is, he has no territory and he has achieved everything one could achieve here. He does truly care about the community and each new players experience. What he did for me and continues to do for other players is only fully understood at the end. I now have my full set finished and find I have little left to do. I could have been here months ago if I was handheld through everything. He made me work for it and has kept me in line when I might be doing something that could impact others - like cleaning up Phase 4 champ spawn mobs before leaving, and I have enjoyed thousands of hours of gameplay as a result and feel Im a better community player.
I personally feel that Merch is someone this shard benefits from greatly and it would be a tragedy to not retain him.

I have broken no rules and I have been banned from accessing my account to deal in anything I have invested. I have almost $150 in donation tickets and another ... probably that many or more used on my account. Not to mention the items and time invested in the shard. I find it ridiculous that I cannot deal in any way anything I have and am forced out without a violation.
If interested in my account.. knowing the minimum I have... you can change the name or whatever you like.. please pm me through the forums. I have witnessed outrageous behavior and have not suffered a loss as I have. If your interested in purchasing my things let me know
I appreciate the support of those who have given and shown it.
I have never said my INTENT is to rub people the wrong way. only that im ok with it if it means many get a benefit. I have done nothing wrong and am penalized for it. Banned without even knowing my terms for my powerscrolls.. no question... no convocation about it... except an offer to talk AFTER my account was banned. To what point? you have already taken a position.

Rule:
The following are not permitted;
- General bratty or childish behavior
Players will be jailed and/or banned, depending on the severity of the infraction, at the Admins' discretion.
I consider the attempt to crash the shard's economy and to remove gameplay wholesale from players because you are angry at a post to be childish, bratty behavior. In order to stop it and to give you some time to cool down, your accounts have been banned for at least a week. This is the 2nd time we have gone down this road, and we had a discussion about this the last time it happened.
Take the week and please calm down. We can discuss it then if you like.

it did happen the last time... and the last time.... I made sure my items went to the right responsible sources that did with them what they needed. You keep saying bratty. It wasn't an attempt to crash the economy... I have all that I need to do that. perhaps when you calm down and realize perhaps you were in the wrong in several areas we can have a convocation. As is it... I have almost $400 taken from me and yet to hear a reasonable excuse as to why. Because I was selling in game items.... and you no idea at what cost or to who.
