I was lucky and got a ancient SOS and the ordinates are at 149*19'N,149*41E. Im not able to go further north then 142*44'N. So my quest is how do I go further north? Do I need to go south to get north? Any help would be great full.

Yep, you need to go south to get north

Head southeast from Serpent's Hold and you'll be able to reach the spot.
