Spell channelling deeds as well as item bless can be found on the token stone in the donation hall....

Personally, and we can all argue this point ad infinitum, I do not believe that crusader/taint and peerless regs should come up for sale. These are powerful items that should be fought for and earned. The dungeon bosses..cove..fire...ice...despise...and hyloth can all be defeated without wearing such armour....as well as peerless...will it be easy..no..is it impossible...hardly. I know the argument will be made that you are not 120 in everything....and i will say irrelevant....it is technique not brute force or some ultra rare weapon...yes a better bow is useful and can be crafted....dip tubs serve a valuable purpose....as does a decently trained ebolt or flame strike...death will be your companion to start but rather quickly you will be able to elude that as well.

as far as bow/xbow goes...do some Balzan/ferons gather a few runic fletching kits and see what you can create....

hopefully that didn't come off cranky, rude, or arrogant...and if it was perceived as such I offer my apology

I agree with you avanthar. Perhaps thats why you have reservations about it sounding rude? :-) Though i feel WP has entered a new age. No longer are secrets kept and things held back. No longer is it a challenge game instead its using the best scripts and macros to work your way through the land. I myself have tried to hold the best of the past and the ideals of those before me that made WP an old school players dream in a unique new world. The same people i know granted you the same ideals. Sadly i feel those days for the moment are set aside and there are more demands.

I agree that buying/selling of tainted/crusader gear and end-game mats shouldn't happen. Obtaining the best items/equipment/pets is so much fun and a long task. That's a majority of the fun on this shard, for me at least. Hunting/farming to get better! If you buy all the best stuff, what's left to do?
I've farmed all mine off Chuck Norris and end-dungeon bosses (minus that pesky Ice dungeon boss - can't figure him out yet). However, I'm still fairly new and have been pretty unlucky on drop rates so only have 2 pieces, but not bad!

To Merchant's point (and I'm terribly sorry for continuing the thread derailing):
I know we've had this debate before, but giving hints to these "secrets of the shard" doesn't seem like a terrible idea. If you were to hog them and farm them so other people could buy them off you (steel steeds, for instance), isn't that shunning people from experiencing end game content? I think the more experienced players (not necessarily the ones that have been here the longest) should go out of their way to get the up-and-coming players active in the harder locations. They don't have to hold their hand and kill Hermit for them, but a small nudge (whereabouts and maybe a hint as to what to do when he sucks you in, for example) could be helpful.

I dunno, maybe just me ranting but we could do this in another thread. Sorry Kaw! I'll check my PS book when I get home and give you what I have. I know I have several lvl 6 tmaps you can have.

The secrets... and the limited info isn't to keep things to ourselves. That kind of thinking is exactly why there is a break in communication. For the most part, We are all vets of UO in general. Though some of us my be new to this age of UO. The point that Avanthar (assuming i can speak for him as well ) and i were speaking to. As WP is a custom shard.... It is the custom content that everyone is exploring that sets WP apart from UO and other shards. Ontop of building up and earning through the game. Exploring and adventuring and discovering way to attack things are what keeps it fresh and moving forward. Just being flat out told how to do something or where they are leads to other great areas of the game left undiscovered.

Being upset with older players that have been here 2 + years... and 4 + years when you have been here 2+ months is just silly. I know you have more than one steel steed yourself. And other newer players as well. I havn't seen one in 3 or more months? longer than you have been playing. Along with the fights to keep the bosses clear and un camped so you all have a chance. Its about thinking community.... not selfishly.

Not just giving the information leads to breaks in when players find and find the ability to take on...tame... work special spawns. So that you have your time... you move on when the next phase of players are ready... creating space for all to take our turns at our special content.

Its seems that the thought is that the vets dont want the new players to succeed... VERY not true. You might take a moment to see on many of the guides... books... suggestions around the shard... we written by the 2 older players in this post.

Play how you want to play

If it isn't against the rules, feel free to do it. Buy items. Sell items. Give away items. I'm quite sure that some of my gear was purchased at some point. I don't feel slighted. I'm more upset by the giveaway prices on some vendors for player-made gear. Some of it is priced at 1/10th of what it should be yet it isn't my place to critique or get them to change it.

I don't normally go after bosses. I have done very few peerless and I have never managed to kill Chuck Norris or The Hermit. It doesn't make me any less of a player and if I want to buy nice gear from someone I should be able to. I have a few hours a week to play, not hours each day. I don't mind supplementing what I can find with what I can purchase.

I do champs to make the scrolls available to others. I would do champs for zero gold. I don't charge different prices for my scrolls either; all scrolls for a given level sell for the same price. Some people sell them for vastly different prices and if they sell, that means there was a market for them at that price too. I'm not going to tell others how to play.

For one to know if a boss is being camped, one has to camp the boss themselves... Somebody doing the boss you wanted? Do another!

Everyone in this thread is right... because these are your views.

People need to stop getting their feelings hurt. I have had enough of this "they wont tell me this or that" My reply to Avanthar was to show that i support his thoughts and agree with them. Which is why you newer players don't get a lot of information from us. This is how we progressed through the game. Though i have no doubt someone will tell you exactly what you want... it wont be us. Neither avanthar or I said you can't put things on your vendors. Or you cannot have what your asking for unless you go get it yourself.... simply our view. And again... if you read my whole post.... you will see i described differences from our time to the current. And now there are demands.

Kaw has every right to seek the things he wants without putting in the effort to kill the things himself. Mybe as yordor stated.. he doesnt want to travel there.. Dosnt have or ever will have the "ability" to get it... Maybe he can and just doesnt want to. He is playing the game he wants to play. Brontu has every right to ask where the spawns are and how to handle them. Each player has a right to price whatever they want for whatever reason they want (Yordor sells powerscrolls for half the price i do) i have never once told yordor how to price something. Nor has he ever told me how to price something. And I have every right to decide where, when and how much i wish to help in any area.

My reply to avanthar was to show support for avanthar because he is not alone in his thinking... AND show the understanding that the world is different at the moment... and there are demands for things. Stop getting your feelings hurt. We are here for the same reason. To love WP. We just have different ideas tactics. I will re post kaws request... as it should not include the stuff that has gone on... basically for no reason.

Getting away from any sensitive topics.. I do think (with an MBA in business/economics) that the player driven economy here has a few interesting variables that make it unlike more common in game and real world economies.

The price of an item would appear to be based on it's ability to progress your character to higher content, which in turn enables you to harvest more gold/tokens and increase your chances of obtaining "better" gear. Then you factor in supply and demand. This for the most part is reflected in WP.

We then have custom items that have the ability to trivialize SA/ML/Doom gear. What's so interesting to me is that even the existence of this gear (on the market or not) is enough to drive standard UO gear and even the crafted gear to baseline prices. Greater ToTs sell for less than 200k gold for example.

A close real world example would be when the first Digital SLR cameras were being developed. Few could obtain one by ordinary means for a decent amount of time but the simple fact that they were to soon exist made film based SLR cameras collapse resulting in the closing of Ritz Camera Corp and other camera retailers.

I have no real point in this post, I just find it so satisfyingly interesting to observe these economic nuances and wanted to divert the conversation to something thought provoking. :)

Yall,
I appreciate the discussion and as it goes these are health interactions. I agree completely that the pursuit of the high end items in the game needs to be something of laudable execution. I don't wish to infringe on the 'old ways', far be that from me. I and patty both are much older than most of you and have physical limitations that preclude us from execution of certain activities with the lightening fast and consistent reflect like actions required to achieve an end goal.

Me I have a very narrow field of vision. Therefore, I do not always see my health dropping so I don't apply a healing technique soon enough to prevent an untimely demise. I work around some of my limitations with scripted tools to 'alert' me so that I know that I need to take some kind of action. But others like Patty have other limitations. You may see her run off into a wall or charge into a mass of unfriendlies and think that she is goofing around when she is not. Some times it is all she can do to make mouse go where her mind is telling it to.

So, in regard to purchase of 'end game' gear. It may be the only way I or Patty might be able to obtain such. Should it be difficult and required a high level of commitment to achieve? Without a doubt that would be appropriate.

However, if I were to make elephant soup, I don't necessary need to be a big game hunter to have my ingredients. The big game hunter has a market fro their wares and can scale their price in accordance to how
they need to be compensated.

Patty and I are 'invested' in this shard. We have skin in the game. Item acquisition is not the end goal for us. The items help to compensate for our limitations. As a result we will farm up resources at a fevered pace at times to work toward the acquisition of items.

Our game play style is dictated by our physical limitations. Those that know us best know that we are generous and try to be helpful where we can be.

This post isn't intended to counter anyone's comment or to challenge anyone's way of thinking. I just take the view point that that there are an infinite number of ways to game play. As many as there are players. I hope this tread doesn't get locked because I think it has been helpful. Thanks Merch, Exoduse, Avanthar, et al for posting your thoughts.

Regards,
Kaw
