Some questions I am running into;

PostPosted: Thu Mar 21, 2013 2:15 pm

[*]What things are basic for new characters in their backpack? I know some are class specific..but what is the basics?
[*]How much weight can your standard backpack take? Plus other store bought or player created ones?
[*]What is a Token Ledger and how do I get one? (This might be a secondary to the first question...
[*]Once you drop a rune in a runebook, how do you name it?
[*]Are there BOD's that aren't set for max level skillsets? (Iron, shadow, valorite, for example in mining?)
[*]Is there a new player guide for pets and how to know what things are needed for making shrinking potions and other things that tell you what is needed for each type of item to be made?
[*]What is a hitching post and are they worth having?
[*]What places are good for those that are starting out to wander/train/make gold on?

There are probably a ton more questions where these came from, but I want to thank those folks that have helped me out inumerable ways, and been very patient with a sometimes clueless character who "remembers back when it was ..." and is trying to hit the ground running (sometimes from spawn opponents...heh) and trying to survive!

Once again your help is much appreciated, and is really great! Wonderful place Whispering Pines is! :)

I'll try to answer in order:

1) I think the standard UO starting items are a candle, some gold, some bandages, and a weapon of some sort. WP adds an ethereal horse, token ledger, and trash pack as well. Trash unwanted items and get tokens in exchange.

2) A backpack's max weight is around 450 stones or 125 (?) items. Max weight also depends on your character's strength; it can be much less than that.

3) You would have been given a token ledger when your char was created. It holds tokens you are given for killing monsters and when using the [claim or [grab command after looting your kill. You can spend the tokens at the Donation Hall in Luna.

4) Name the rune before placing it in the book. After marking it just double-click it and you'll be prompted for a name.

5) I believe BODs are given based on your current skill level. I say "believe" because I started out as a crafter so I was never below 100 in those skills.

6) The crafting tools will tell you what is required to make each item. Simply click the square icon on the right of the item you wish to make (not the button to actually craft the item) and it will tell you the ingredients and your success chances. Pet items are made with a brush, purchased from the stable hand.

7) A hitching post shrinks pets just like a potion or leash. It is locked down at your house instead of being mobile.

8) There are so many places to gain wealth. Try the New Player's Dungeon - entrance is in the rear of Lothar's castle in Haven. There's the Brigand Fort near Brit and of course you can make big bucks if you can get in on a champ like Crafter's and you can pick up skill scrolls at the same time. Selling smithy items to NPC smiths can make some gold and raise smithy skill at the same time.

Learn the bardic skills. They can help you against foes that would otherwise kill you quickly. The peace and discord skills are valuable as is the ability to provoke two mobs onto each other. If they're killing each other they're not attacking you!

Wow, I really appreciate all the help and advice. :)

Quick notes so I dont spam the ingame experience. heh.

[*] I still have a New Player Ticket. Never found a match.. should there be an area I should look in?
[*] Organic Material (is it like yarn balls?)
[*] If I start doing BOD's what areas do I find higher levels crafting materials?
[*] Training my pet(s), Lokai included is a good idea right? Better to wander/fight the realm, instead of Training Center?
[*] Really wondered if there is a place for reference like UO Stratics used to be, quick ref place that I get some answers without having dial down deep in a website...Understand the WP server and world is not the main UO, but some things should be similar right?
[*]Wheat is usuable ...um.. how? ;) I dont remember!
[*] Training up healing/bandaging is best doing in training a pet or wandering WP fighting things?
[*] Really enjoying the events the Pines are doing. Thanks for a great place!

So much fun, so little time .. :) See you in the world!

Hey Koren, I'll help out.

[*] I still have a New Player Ticket. Never found a match.. should there be an area I should look in?
A new player ticket half needs to combine with another New player ticket half. Its a way of getting new players together
[*] Organic Material (is it like yarn balls?)
Organic Material is used in end game content and can be found on Ettins, Trolls, Earth Elementals, Dungeon Bosses, and a few other monsters
[*] If I start doing BOD's what areas do I find higher levels crafting materials?
The higher level crafting materials (boards, ingots, leather etc) can be found all over the world. If you go to Luna, and head East, there is the NPG Guildhall. In there are some runebooks with locations
[*] Training my pet(s), Lokai included is a good idea right? Better to wander/fight the realm, instead of Training Center?
Training a pets skills can easily be done on the twiggies in the training center. To level up the pet, you'll want to take them into a dungeon. Progressively harder monsters give a lot more experience to your pet. I found it most efficient to start them on something easy like the Oasis crafter champ spawn, then move them to a lizardman Champion spawn. They will kill the lizards fairly quickly and level up fast. Be prepared to keep them topped off until they get over lvl 10.
[*] Really wondered if there is a place for reference like UO Stratics used to be, quick ref place that I get some answers without having dial down deep in a website...Understand the WP server and world is not the main UO, but some things should be similar right?
You will find that this shard is very customized. Items, locations, monsters etc will not necessarily be where they would in standard UO. There is a ton of content to discover, and don't be upset if some of those that have spent a lot of time learning the secrets of WP are hesitant to divulge the deepest, darkest secrets. The forums do provide a good bit of information, but the History tab itself gives clues to how to find some of the custom gear/content. If you have questions about something specific, players are usually able to provide hints and get you off in the right direction. Oh, also, things like regen caps, hci/dci caps etc are something I havent pinned down completely yet, so just get as much as your playstyle wants
[*]Wheat is usuable ...um.. how? I dont remember!
Got me on this one
[*] Training up healing/bandaging is best doing in training a pet or wandering WP fighting things?
Best way to train healing is to take off your gear, cast lich form (which drains your hp), then set a Razor macro to apply a bandaid to yourself every five seconds or so. Equip a few thousand bandaids and it will level up on its own. It can be quicker gains if you are curing poison after 90-95 healing, so you could bake casting poison on yourself into your macro. Just don't kill yourself :)

Wheat can be made into flour using a flour mill (house add-on made w/ carpentry skill).

Training healing is easy using the red twiggy too. It does damage but not too much, making it ideal to heal against while wrestling.

Note that healing your pet will raise your veterinary skill but not your healing.

Once again I wander back in to ask a couple of questions I can't seem to learn or answer on my own!

[*]On pets, I have a Nightshade and a ACuSidhe, is either ridable, or are they more of an attack pet than a ridable, packable one like the Lokai? What should be the levels of Animal Lore andTaming?

[*]I have a BOD I can't do anything with. It says,
Large Bulk Order
Amount to Make 10
Shadow Iron Ingots
Ringmail Gloves
Ringmail Tunic
RIngmail Sleeves
Ringmail Leggings

When I make say the gloves, there is no actionable button on the menu gump to add the product to the BOD, only the following, combine with other deed or cancel. I dont think the cutbod works on the BOD Large Order, and I can't fulfill the order as it is now. Ideas?

Just a couple this time as these have ran me for a loop.:)

I might have some gameplay questions on using more than one pet while I visit dungeons or wander the world?

I'm not sure what your pet question is... I'm going to guess that you're looking for higher level packy pets. This is kinda a odd deal because a high end lokai while only a one slot pet can be a formidable fighter as well. There are the Giant Beetle's which are a three slot pet. I really don't see any real advantage a Giant Beetle has over a Lokai. The ultimate packy pet is the Steel Steed. but at four slots you are prob only going to be controlling one.

Each pet has a different behavioral aspect. lokai's do not require a lot of lore so long as they are fed regularly. Steels on the other hand can use about all the lore you can muster and then some.

Hope that answers your question.. .but somehow I don't think it did.
Kaw...

You have a large BOD which requires you to first collect and fill the individual small BODs. You also will want to check out the guide Devir Santi put together to see if you want to spend the time and resources filling the BODS.

Where is the guide, is it on the website or in the forum or is it onsite in the game at one of Devir's homes/businesses?

No Kaw, I really like the Kotai and wondered what kind of pet the Nightmare and ACUsidhe was. I know I can't use the sidhe till I am over 101 in Taming. I didnt know what the Nightmare took as well.

I find that wandering around with two Lokai's yesterday afternoon there was less chance of me or the pets dying, while meeting challenges on the Whispering Pines roads and forests, and some caves.

I really feel bad when I die, and I feel like I am an hindrance to folks' gameplay when I wander new places and end up dying without any resource to resurrect me. I am not high enough to tame a wandering fairy yet, but, when I do... I am going to have it with me at ALL times!

That is legal right? :) I tend to have issues with my backpack having too much in it. Which makes some hard decisions on what to carry when I gather materials for work, and then run into battles, which makes me ask this: What do you guys go with when you do materials gathering for your crafting? And what do you go with when you are going into dangerous places? It comes down to personal gameplay I know, but wondered what preferences are prevalent.

Plus I know I dont have things that make life bit easier like checkbook, key books for craftables etc.. things like that. There is a while yet for me to learn and earn them, but, I truly feel bad when I die due to UIE (user input error) and cause people to have to help me out.

So now I am done blathering on, thanks for the pedestal!

The BOD guide are in the forums in the new player guides section on the second page. It gives you the info to calculate the point value for any BOD and see the possible rewards for each. Very useful if there is a particular item you are trying to get or to keep you from burning through tons of materials to fill a large BOD for a reward you don't want.

I'm not much help when it comes to taming so someone else will have to help you out there, although you can always refer to http://uo2.stratics.com or http://www.uoguide.com for some basic info although some things will not apply to WP.

I don't think anyone really minds helping other players out although you can be difficult to find. If you get into a bind you can always say i pray for life or if you you become evil at any point the command would be blood for the inferno. These commands will let you self rez at the cost of 5 strength and some karma, which if you are resource gathering you will gain back the strength quickly. I give blood to the inferno regularly it doesn't hurt much.

As far as carrying capacity, you lokai is your friend until you are able to make/buy the keys. Just be prepared to fail a lot if you are making them yourself. At 120 Tinkering you only have a 40% chance and even at that I failed as many as 7 times in a row trying to make one, so make sure you gather plenty of materials. I made a few myself and bought a few that the materials were too valuable to waste on failing. I didn't do a ton of gathering until a had a few of the keys for storage. You can also use a bag of sending when you get heavy, I usually just used it to send gold until I got the checkbook.

As far as what I do when I go to dangerous places, I usually die. I try to be prepared I carry two bows, and my melee weapon is a kama. One bow is specifically for higher end mobs (hit lower attack, hit lower defense, high damage+ and loaded with freeze arrows) the other is for regular stuff. The kama has whirlwind special attack which is useful in a crowd and it's fast. As far as armor goes I have 2 pieces of crusaders gear-both obtained by voting, the rest are odds and ends, getting my resists close to 70. I usually carry a high level dragon to help bail me out when I get myself into too much trouble. Strategy-I'm usually in vampire form to get some life leech and poison resistance, enemy of one on tough mobs, honor when I remember, consecrate weapon a lot, and healing as needed, try not to die too much, run away when appropriate. That's just me, certainly not the best but I have fun trying and hopefully this will give you some ideas.
